Entrance lodge for Thornbridge Hall from railway, now four houses. c1903-4
in neo-Tudor style. Coursed squared limestone with gritstone dressings and
quoins. Plain tile roofs. Moulded stone coped gables. Stone side wall stacks,
several diamond sectioned. Two storeys,except towers. Four bay central section
with lower two storey, two bay wings to sides. U-plan. South elevation has
large, central 4-centred archway through building, with octagonal towers either
side. Western tower has doorcase with moulded lintel. To either side of towers,
3-light, double transomed, mullion windows. Similar window beyond to west.
Above, to sides, similar windows in same arrangement. Over arch, stringcourse,
also continuing round towers. Coat of arms and two 2-light mullion windows
above. Corbelled parapet with semi-circular headed crenellations over. To sides,
towers have oval windows, stringcourses and castellations. Similar castellated
parapets either side. Lower wing to east has 3-light mullion and transom window.
Door set at angle to east with bracketed hood and moulded architrave. Adjacent
single light window. Advanced bay to south with two storey canted bay window.
Mullion,windows below and above. Above, to west, two gabled dormers with 2-light
mullion windows, that over door pedimented, that over window with Dutch gable.
Mirror image wing to west. All fenestration leaded lights.
