Hollins Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C17 with possibly earlier core and late C18 refashioning. Coursed rubble
gritstone with quoins, moulded kneelers, coped gables, intermediate and gable end
ridge stacks. Plain tiles and stone slates. 'T' plan house, with lean-to
addition to rear of house. South elevation; two storeys two bays with C19 sashes
in projecting surrounds; flanking central doorway, which has a chamfered quoined
surround and a heavy lintel. C20 half glazed door. Narrow band with simple cavetto
moulding to bottom edge to heads of ground and first floor windows, which steps up
over the doorway as a hoodmould. The elevation has the remains of single light C17
windows, now blocked, and single and 2-light chamfer mullioned windows survive
elsewhere in the building. At the east end, there are 4-light mullioned windows
to a cellar or former basement with pointed heads to lights, each cut from a single
block of stone.
