Duffieldbank House
II
House. Mid-C18, early C19 and mid-Cl 9. Red brick with sandstone
dressings and quoins. Welsh slate roof, hipped to south. Stone
coped gables with plain kneelers. Brick gable and ridge stacks.
Three storeys. West elevation of three plus two bays. Three
bays to right have angle quoins and quoins to advanced centre
bay. The ground floor has a projecting C19 bay with a flat roof,
extending one bay to the left of the main block. Doorway to
right with moulded stone surround and raised and fielded panelled
door. Tripartite window to left and single window to left again,
with moulded surrounds. To the right of the porch bay is a
segment headed window in a moulded stone surround, with single
bar sash. Three glazing bar sashes above in segment headed
moulded stone surrounds. Three similar but smaller windows above
again. Bay to left, set back. The ground floor is part of the
porch bay. Glazing bar sash above, under wedge stone lintel with
stepped keystone. Similar window above again with three bay sash.
Broad bay set back to left again, with segment headed window to
each floor with single bar sashes under segment headed wedge
lintels, except the top floor which has a plain lintel. Most
windows have C19 louvred shutters. Canted bay to south side.
Interior: Open string staircase with two knopped turned balusters
per tread. Wreathed and ramped handrail. Back staircase with
stick balusters.
