Stone Gateway & attached wall at Entrance to Memorial Gardens

Gateway & wall. Dated 1869. Coursed squared sandstone with sandstone dressings.
Robust four-centred arched gateway with deep chamfer and dropped keystone. Returned
hoodmould with mosaic work in the spandrels. Flanked by stepped buttresses, the
lower part gabletted and the upper part with a set-off. Return buttresses to west
and east. Raised parapet above has recessed decorative mosaic panel, inscribed MIZ
PAH/MDCCCLIX. The parapet has a moulded base and double chamferd coping. Pair of
iron gates, with spearhead cresting. Plain stone walls to either side with steep
double-chamfered coping with bead moulding.
