4/157 Worthy Farmhouse
II
House formerly farmhouse. Circa 1820-30. Slatestone rubble walls. Hipped slate
and asbestos slate roof. Brick stack at either end and wide projecting rubble
lateral stack at rear with brick shaft.
Plan: double depth plan. 2 principal rooms at front divided by central passage
which leads to stairhall behind. Service rooms at rear including kitchen, dairy,
pantry and back stairs, slightly modified in late C20.
Exterior: 2 storeys with basement and attic. Symmetrical 3-window front of
hornless 16-pane sashes, those on lst floor original, those below renewed in late
C20, Central porch with gabled roof on chamfered wooden posts and 6-panel door
behind, both are C20 replicas. 12-pane hornless sash windows in left-hand end
wall and at rear, some original and some renewed in late C20. Kitchen window at
rear is an original 20-pane sash window.
Interior: contains original joinery such as 6-panel doors and graceful curving
staircase.
