5/196 Preston Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C17 or earlier considerably rebuilt and extended during C18 and C19.
Slate stone rubble walls incorporating some cob. Slate roof with Victorian
crested ridge tiles, hipped at left end, gabled to right and half-hipped to rear
wing. Large projecting rubble stack at front built in decreasing courses with
small brick shaft, small brick stack immediately to its left, rendered brick stack at right gable end and projecting stone stack with brick shaft lateral to rear wing.
Plan: likely to have originated as 3- room-and-through-passage plan, lower end to the left with front lateral fireplace, higher end partly rebuilt with a projection at the centre probably in mid C19 and a wing added to the rear in the C18.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front of late C19 or early C20 2-
light casements. The central 2 window part of the house projects. C19 plank door to its left. The stack projects to the left of that with an inserted doorway beyond. There has evidently been a substantial rebuilding of the front wall judging by the joint visible partly in the central projection and shortly before the gable end and the more modern character of the stonework in between .
Interior- Inaccessible at time of survey and according to owner exhibits no early features, but these may have been concealed by C19 modernisation.
