Description

DITTISHAM
SX8654-SX8754
17/307 THE QUAY
Quay Cottage

GV II

Cottage. Circa mid C19, probably a remodelling of an earlier building,
being heavily restored at the time of the survey 1987. Roughcast stone
rubble. Slate roof with gabled ends and black glazed ridge tiles. Right
gable end has short stack with new clay pot.
Plan: formerly a 2-room plan with a central entrance, the right hand room
heated from a gable end stack. There is a passageway at the left end of
the house to the back. At the time of the survey, 1987, the cottage was
being restored and internal partitions on the ground floor had been removed
to create one large room. There is a wing at the rear of the right hand
end which might be a recent addition.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Not quite symmetrical 2-window east front. C20 2-
light casements, 2 panes per light, with slate sills. Central doorway with
late C20 plank double doors and C20 gabled and glazed porch with a slate
roof. The passageway doorway to left has a late C20 plank door.
Rear elevation not inspected.
Included for group value.
