Farmhouse used as farm building. Probably C16. Slate rubble. corrugated iron
roof with gabled ends.
Plan: 3 room and through passage plan, the lower left room was probably
originally a shippon. Lateral stack on front (north) of hall and projecting
stair turret on rear (south) of high end of hall. Inner room stack on gable
end. Lower room has lateral stock on north front inside, built when lower end
was largely rebuilt. Eaves heightened probably in C19 and stairs inserted
into hall beside original stairs and inner room partition. circa C19 lean-to
at front and rear and lower end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. North front has central projecting and truncated
lateral stack with passage doorway to its left with plank door and corrugated
iron canopy. Blocked window above. C19 3-light casement to right of stack.
Small window to right and 2 above all with casements removed. Lean-to at
front of lower left end.
Rear (south) has roofless projecting stair turret to left of centre window.
Passage doorway to right of centre with original round headed timber
doorframe, unchamfered and with C19 plank door. Window to left. Lower right
end has block ventilation slit in bottom section of wall, above which it has
been rebuilt. Later lean-to in front of right hand end.
Interior: Solid stone walls on either side of passage which has a cross beam,
chamfered on lower side only and with step stops. Hall has central cross beam
and a half-beam at lower end, both chamfered and with hollow step stops.
Large lateral hall fireplace with chamfered slate lintel. Left hand jamb is
chamfered and corbelled on right. Inner roon has cross beam and half beam
against end wall, both chamfered with hollow step stops. Remains of chamfered
beam over solid wall partition between hall and inner room which might have
been head beam for a screen. Blocked fireplace in inner room with slate
lintel. Later stud partition in inner room. Large doorway inserted into high
end gable. Lateral fireplace in north wall of lower end room with rough
timber lintel. There is no floor in the lower end.
