Farmhouse

Farmhouse, subdivided into 3 dwellings. Circa early C17 with circa mid C19
alterations and extension end 1980s extension and subdivision. Slate rubble
partly rendered and with partly slate hung first floor. Slate roof with gable
and hipped ends, right end grouted scantle slates with some old crested ridge
tiles; left and reslated recently. Rendered chimney stacks, right gable end
stack with tapered cap and drips, heightened in brick. Front lateral stack
flush with front wall.
Plan: 3-room and through passage plan, lower end to left; front lateral hall
stack and gable end stack at right end. Stack at lower end said to be in
lower end wall. Stair hall inserted between inner room and hall and parallel
range added to rear of high end in circa mid C19. 1980s extension at rear of
lower end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 6-window range. Asymmetrical fenestration of C20
casements with glazing bars. C20 slate hung porch to left of centre to
passage doorway. To right of centre 2-storey projection, probably originally
porch, now with ground floor French window. At extreme left end of front
external stone stairs to loft doorway, now partly blocked to form window.
Rear left hand (high end) mid C19 parallel range added, rendered and with
grouted slate roof with gable end stacks. 2 storeys, symmetrical 3-bays of
sashes and central doorway. 1980s slate-hung rear addition to lower right
end.
Interior: Hall has ovolo-moulded cross-beam over plastered passage partition.
At the lower side of passage a chamfered rounded arch timber doorframe to
blocked doorway to lower end room. Large lateral hall fireplace has slightly
cambered arch with slate voussoirs. C20 stairs inserted into high end of
hall. Inner roof fireplace lintel replaced.
The roof principals are mortice and tenoned at their apexes and have later
collars, ridgepiece and rafters.
