Gate piers, gate and
walls at east entrance to
St Lawrence

Piers, gates, walling, entrance to churchyard. Erected 1873, but cappings may
be C18. Coursed, thin bedded stone. Two square piers, c.750 mm x 3.5 m high
overall; heavy moulded cappings surmounted by large granite ball finials. Ogee
quadrant walls to saddle-back copings at cl.6 m stopped to square piers with
cappings, c.13 m wide overall. Pair of C19 cast iron gates to main opening,
smaller matching pedestrian gate to right. An inscription in the church notes
that the piers were ' ... moved by consent from ... Whitecross for this
purpose'.
