Farmhouse. Crica 1830 (datestones 1805 and 1831) with small later C19
extension. Slate rubble with red brick window arches. Left hand (south
west) are rendered. Slate roof with gabled ends. Gable end stacks with
short red brick shafts, right hand with slate cowels.
Plan: Double depth plan with 2 principal front rooms, central entrance hall
probably with staircase at the back and 2 rear service rooms the right hand
the kitchen with a large rear lateral stack, the left hand probably the
pantry. Under the front of the house there is a cellar. Later C19 work-
house added on rear right hand corner.
Exterior: 2 storeys with cellar under the front. Symmetrical 3-window
south east front. C19 16-pane sashes with red brick flat arches and slate
sills, right hand first floor sash is a replacement. Central doorway with
C19 panelled and glazed door and open porch with Tuscan columns and hipped
slate canopy. The right hand end has C19 12-pane sash, later 2-light sash
and C20 plastic windows above.
Rear elevation has large lateral stack with set-offs and fell stone rubble
shaft with slate weathering and yellow clay lourved pot. To right of stack
a C20 stair window.
Interior: Not inspected.
Note: A stone in the front wall under the first floor left hand window is
inscribed "1805, 1831 (SS?)". 1831 is the most likely date and "SS"
probably initials.
