House, now Hotel, c.1900. Snecked rubble stone with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs
with tall rubble stacks obscured by embattled parapets. Built to resemble a
Gothick folly in style of castellated mansion. T-shaped in plan with broad base of
T forming sea-front facade and built into bank with raised range to rear. 2
storeys. Asymmetrical facade left side has canted transomed window with
castellated parapet of 2 lights with single sidelights all with cinquefoil ogee
arches above bay window of four 4-centred arched lights, transomed with moulded
finials to each corner of the bay. The window is flanked by small mock corner
turret to left side above short diagonal buttress and taller polygonal turret with
loop, also buttressed with offset to right, both with crenellated parapets. The
right side has a 2-cinquefoil headed light window with hoodmould above doorway with
large sidelights. Shallow false square turret with loops in each face at right-
hand corner. The whole right side is encompassed by a single storey colonnaded
arcade with slender columns with cushion style capitals supporting 4-centred
arches, 4 bays to front canted corner bay returned round to right side with 2
further arches butting into a 3-light bay window, the whole with crenellated parapet
breaking into small gable to centre front. Double gabled projection to right side
of rear range with canted bay windows on each floor. Main entrance to rear with 4-
centred arched doorway to front side of projecting rear range with half-glazed door
of 2 leaves. Polygonal bay window to left side of front range. Principal rooms
retain original features, including interlaced polygonal ribbing to wooden ceiling
with 2 moulded beams supported on decorative wall posts to original lounge, similar
single beam to original dining room, now bar, with moulded plaster frieze with
scrolling foliage and entrance hall with 2 similar beams, stone hood to fireplace
with corbel masks and moulded handrail to staircase with turned balusters, square
newels with blind panels to each face and three 4-centred arched screen over lower
flight. Smaller plasterwork cornice with scrolling foliage and rosettes.
