2 cottages with interconnecting outbuilding formerly blacksmiths and carpenters
shops, now converted into dwelling. Circa 1880. This is probably by the same
architect as Twitchen House (q.v.). Squared rubble with slate-hanging to west and
north side of left hand cottage. Slate roofs with shaped rafter ends gabled-ended
to cottages, gableted to outbuilding with ventilation slats to east end, and slate
hanging at west end. Three large lateral stacks of rubble with offsets and brick
shafts with oversailing courses to caps, one to inner face of left hand cottage,
one to front of cottage to right end, one to rear in the angle of this cottage and
outbuilding formerly stack serving blacksmiths forge. Planned complex of 2
cottages set apart at right angles to each other, the left side gable ended to
front, each with a gabled cross-wing, with the connecting outbuilding to rear
running parallel to right hand cottage and extending west to butt onto part of east
wall of left side cottage. Outbuilding also has small right-angled extension with
hipped slate roof to north side forming L-shape. Cottages 2 storeys, outbuilding
single storey. 3-light windows with slightly corbelled arches on each floor of
front gable end of left side cottage with C20 porch with slated leanto roof at left
end. Left side has 2-light and single light window above a single light window to
right of C20 single-storey flat-roofed extension. Right side is blind. Recessed
connecting portion of outbuilding has long range of C20 casements. Left gable end
of right-hand cottage has 2 single light casements to left of plank door and 3-
light window both under single slightly cambered arch. Single 2-light window to
south side in the cross-wing gable. 3-light windows on each floor with cambered
arches at east end with additional single light window ground floor right side.
Recessed forge stack to right has large buttress with small lean-to roof to left
forming porch to cottage.
