Farmhouse, formerly a manor house.
Circa C16; possibly earlier origin. Rendered granite rubble with granite dressings.
Low-pitched slate roof with gabled and hipped ends. L-shaped on plan with gables to
north-east and south-west. Two storeys. Asymmetrical fenestration. The south-west
gable has depressed arch granite doorway and window both with roll mouldings.
Granite hollow-chamfered window frames some with mullions intact. Three-light window
to ground floor of north wing with chamfered depressed arch doorway to side. Similar
doorway to wall opposite enclosing yard to north. Large granite chimney stack with
set-offs on east gable end.
Including outbuilding adjoining north-west which has blocked depressed arch doorway to
yard, and hollow-chamfered window frames. The roof is clad in corrugated iron.
Interior: ceiling beams and open fireplaces. Moulded wood doorways and old
rail-studded doors. The Cholwiches settled here in early C13 until the last of the
family died in 1835 Ref W G Hoskins - Devon.
