Description

UGBOROUGH -
SX 6655-6755

15/99 Barn immediately south
east of Haredon Farm-
18-2-85 house.

GV II

Bank barn and shippon. Circa C17. Slate rubble. Scantle slate roof with gabled
ends. Situated on steep site at right angles to sloped land. Shippon under lower
end with 3 narrow doorways. Barn doors at centre approached by stone ramp and
loading door in higher gable end to road. Ventilation slits on front and back
walls. Roof trusses have morticed apices and side pegged lap-jointed collars. This
is a very good and unaltered example of a bank barn which is unusual because of its
orientation at right angles to the slope of the land. The barn is important also
for its group value with the medieval Haredon Farmhouse.
