Country villa. Early C19. Rendered and whitewashed, gabled slate roof, fretwork
bargeboards with pendants, wood finials to the gablet and gable ends, rebuilt and
rendered stacks, verandah with a zinc tent-canopy roof.
Plan and development: L-shaped and all of a single build. Front range with the 2
principal rooms with gable end stacks. Central entrance hall between these 2 rooms
with an open-well staircase at the back. Long service wing at right-angles to rear.
Gothick style.
Exterior: 2 storeys, 3 windows, 2-light casements with leaded lights, French
windows to ground floor, Gothic glazing. Central panelled doors. Service wing with
casements with leaded panes and a canted bay with sash windows and close-set glazing
bars. Verandah across the frontage, slender iron posts, stone floor with half-round
edge nosing.
Interior with staircase with a moulded turned newel, stick balusters and a moulded
rail. Other small features include doors and reeded architraves, also window
shutters.
Part of a small estate established new in the early C19 in the romantic style of
that period. Not a working unit, the estate was intended solely for recreational
use and was probably intended as a summer residence of a town dweller,
In the grounds of the villa are a lodge on the entrance driveway (q.v.),
a gateway (q.v.), and a further lodge to the north (q.v.), which form an interesting
and complete ensemble.
