Description

SS 72 SE BISHOP'S NYMPTON

6/60 Muckford Farmhouse
-

GV II

Farmhouse. Early/mid C19, possibly a remodelling of an earlier house. Colourwashed
rendered cob and stone rubble; slate roof, gabled at ends; end stacks with brick
shafts to main range, end stack to rear wing.
Plan: Overall L plan: a single depth main range, facing south, with 2 principal
heated rooms, one on either side of the central entrance which probably faces the
stair. A rear left kitchen wing at right angles to the main range has a separate
entrance on the outer return wall. A lean-to extends across the rear of the main
range.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front with a central panelled C19 front door
with an overlight with glazing bars. C19 small-pane sash windows. The rear
elevation has a central 2-light C19 small-pane casement in the centre; probably
lighting the stair.
Interior: Not inspected.
A modest, but very complete small early/mid C19 farmhouse.
Group value with a probably contemporary farmbuilding to the rear of the house.
