Farmhouse. Probably mid C17, extensively modernised and extended circa 1970.
Plastered cob on exposed rubble footings; rubble stacks topped with C20 brick; slate
roof. L-shaped building with main range facing south-east. The original house
comprised a gable-ended 2-room main range including a central through passage wide
enough to accommodate a stair (since replaced) and rear kitchen/service range at
right angles behind left (south-west) end. Gable end stacks to all 3 rooms and
outshots across back of main range. Circa 1970 1-room extension to right (north-
east) of main block. 2 storeys. Balanced 3-window front of circa 1970 casements
with glazing bars and central door with small side light serving passage to original
house. Interior preserves original arrangement. To right of passage a full height
internal cob crosswall and parlour to right has plain chamfered crossbeam intended
originally for plasterwork and an impressive volcanic ashlar fireplace with an oak
lintel with flattened elliptical arch, the whole with chamfered surround. Remains of
large inserted C18 brick bread oven in left side. A lower status room left of the
passage has a double ovolo moulding with scroll stops to crossbeam and rubble
fireplace with chamfered and scroll-stopped oak lintel. Roof inaccessible.
