Farmhouse and adjoining cider house. Circa mid C17 farmhouse, ciderhouse probably
C18 or early C19. Whitewashed rendered cob and stone; slate roof to farmhouse,
gabled at ends of main range, Roman tiles to cider house ; end stacks, the right end
stack projecting with a stone shaft, axial stack.
Plan: Single depth 4 room plan house with a right of centre entrance into a passage
with a late C17 stair to the rear of the passage : the flanking rooms appear to have
functioned as parlours with a kitchen to the left and an adjoining unheated service
room at the extreme left. Cider house at left end is probably a post C17 addition.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 7 window front with a C19 gabled porch to right of
centre with a C19 panelled door with a rectangular fanlight 2- and 3-light late C19
or C20 casements with glazing bars. C20 door at left end of range, loft entrance
above.
Interior: Chamfered crossbeams throughout ground floor, some with stops, others may
have stops buried in the wall plaster. The kitchen has a large open fireplace with a
bread oven, remains of curing chamber adjacent to fireplace. The other fireplaces
have modern grates but earlier jambs and lintels may survive. Good late C17 stair
with turned balusters, first floor balustrade, square section newels (1 replaced) and
1 original faceted finial.
Roof: Not inspected but said by Hulland to contain jointed cruck trusses.
