Farmhouse. Circa late C17/early C18, possibly a remodelling of an earlier building,
late C20 renovations. Whitewashed and rendered, probably cob and stone, left end
wall rebuilt after collapse in the 1930s; thatched roof, gabled at left end, hipped
at right end; end stacks.
Plan: Unusual plan form: a single depth arrangement with heated rooms, one to the
left and one to the right to of an entrance to right of centre which gives into an
axial passage parallel to other front wall with unheated service rooms to the rear
of the passage. The passage also gives access to a straight stair between the
service rooms and right hand room. The right hand room has been a kitchen and has a
small probably later outshut with a catslide roof at the rear. The present plan may
be a modification of a C17 3 room and passage plan.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4 window front with a C20 thatched, boarded porch
to right of centre; further doorway at extreme right into store room. C20
fenestration of timber casements.
Interior: The right hand room has a chamfered cross beam with runout stops and an
open fireplace with a roughly-chamfered scroll-stopped lintel. Left hand room not
inspected; plank partitioning to service rooms.
Roof: Not inspected, said to have straight principal rafters to surviving old roof
trusses.
