Cottage. Probably C18, extended and altered in C19. Colourwashed stone rubble and
cob. Thatch roof, half-hipped at right end with stone rubble stack with offsets,
heightened in brick with bread oven projection at left gable end. Small C20 brick
stack to rear right end.
Plan: Essentially a 2 room and central staircase plan, but right-hand room
partitioned axially to create front passage to probable C19 addition of 1 room plan
at right end, which until early C20 was used as a lofted outbuilding.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 2 window range, principally early C20 fenestration. 2 2 light
casements, left side with 3 panes per light. Ground floor has 2 3-light casements,
left side with 2 panes per light to left of 4 panelled door, the upper 2 panels
glazed, with a small 2-light casement to right. Similar door with blocked loft door
above close to the angle of the coal-shed/scullery outshut with catslide thatched
roof which projects forward aat right end.
Interior. Fireplace to larger left-hand room probably concealed behind C20 grate. No
exposed ceiling beams. Exposed rough joists to right-hand room. Early C20 straight-
run staircase. It is said that there was originally direct entry into the left-hand
room.
Roof structure probably C18 with straight-pegged principals of light scantling with
waney rafters and purlins.
Eastcott is set well back from, and built at right angles to East Street. The garden
is enclosed by cob walls, the right-hand wall incorporating a single surviving bee-
bole.
