1/123 Huxford Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse, including lofted outbuilding attached at right end. Probably C17 core,
largely remodelled and extended probably in late C18. Painted rendered stone rubble
and cob, unrendered to rear. Corrugated asbestos roof with gable end brick stacks
and brick shaft to lateral stack to rear.
Plan: long range of 4 sections, with low 1½ storey outbuilding at left end,
converted to form part of dwelling in C20, the C17 core which consists of a single
large room to left of a wide entrance hall containing staircase running from back to
front, the front doorway now blocked and window inserted, the late C18 range to right
forming main house part with slightly higher ridge level, and consisting of single
large room to each side of central staircase, the left-hand room heated by rear
lateral stack, and large lofted outbuilding at right end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. 5-window range. C18 range has symmetrical arrangement with
complete C19 fenestration of two 3-light casements on each floor flanking 2 light
casements, all 8 panes per light, above C20 door. C17 core to left has C20
fenestration. Outbuilding to right has loft door above 2 plank doors each with
window opening to right.
Interior: largely altered in early C20 but earlier fireplaces survive concealed
behind C20 grates. No exposed ceiling beams and no access to roof, but purlins
visible over range at left end suggests C17 roof structure survives intact.
