Farmhouse. Probably C16 origins, rebuilt in early C19. Plastered cob or rubble;
stone rubble stacks topped with C19 and C20 brick; coated slate roof, replaced by
corrugated asbestos over kitchen.
L-shaped house with main block, comprising 2 rooms with central cross passage and
end stacks facing south-east. To rear of left (south-west) end is rear service
block which contains the stairs connected to the cross passage with service rooms
to rear, the largest with a large outer projecting lateral stack. Kitchen is set
in angle of 2 wings with a lean-to roof against the back of the main block and has
large projecting end stack. The stairs and service room appear to occupy the shell
of a C16 farmhouse, the rest was built in the early C19. 2 storeys.
Symmetrical 3-window front of 16-pane sashes. Central doorway has part-panelled,
part-glazed C19 door and overlight, panelled reveals and doorcase with shaped
cornice and moulded entablature. Projecting eaves on shaped brackets and roof is
gable-ended. The south-west side is dominated by the large probably C16 stack with
its chimney shaft intact but since extended. To right is a secondary part-glazed,
part-panelled door with hipped and slate-roofed porch. The windows include C19 12
and 16-pane sashes or casements with glazing bars.
Interior includes much C19 joinery including the stick baluster stair. No earlier
features are exposed.
From the left (south-west) end of the front a high plastered cob wall with
interlocking tile coping projects forward (south-eastwards) along the left side of
the front garden.
