House, former farmhouse. C16 or C17, extensively refurbished and enlarged circa
1850. Plastered local stone rubble probably with cob; stone rubble stacks with
plastered chimneyshafts; slate roof, originally thatch.
Plan and development: the main block faces south-east and appears to be the
historic core of the house. It has a 3-room-and-through-passage plan with the
putative inner room at the right (north-eastern) end. The 'hall' has an axial stack
backing onto the passage and both end rooms have gable-end stacks. In the mid C19 a
parallel rear block was added across the back of the passage and left end room.
This included a stair to rear of the passage and kitchen with gable-end stack. This

left room. Since no internal inspection was available at the time of this survey it
is not known how much of the C16 or C17 fabric survives in the main block although
tne original plan appears to remain substantially intact. House is 2 storeys with
mid C19 service outshots to rear of 'hall' and 'inner room'.
Exterior: good mid C19 front. Regular but not symmetrical 4-window front of ground
floor French windows with overlights and first floor casements, all with a
consistent pattern of glazing bars with margin panes. Passage front doorway is left
of centre and contains a C19 6-panel door with fanlight. 4-bay verandah supported
on geometric pattern trellis posts. Main roof eaves are carried on a series of
shaped brackets and it is gable-ended. The rear block contains horned 12-pane
sashes and the large horned sash lighting the stairs has margin panes.
Interior was not available for inspection at the time of this survey. Apparently
most is the result of the extensive mid C19 refurbishment but earlier carpentry is
said to survive in the main block.
