House. Mid C16, extended C16/C17. Timber framed and exposed close-studding
with plaster infill on sandstone base, with weather boarding to return eleva-
tions, and red brick and tile hung rear wing. Plain tiled roofs. Continuous
jettied range of 4 framed bays with rear additions. Two storeys and attic with
basement of sandstone to left. Continuous jetty with moulded bressumer on
brackets and returned to left on moulded dragon post, the principal frame posts
enriched with carved colonettes, most badly worn, with brick pier to right end.
Hipped roof with gablets and hipped dormer. Stack to end right, and large
projecting stack of English Bond brick with sandstone quoins on sandstone base
projecting at rear left, with clustered moulded flues. Four leaded wooden case-
ments on 1st floor, of 2 and 3 lights, and two with mullions and transoms.
Three 3 and 4 light leaded casements on ground floor. Boarded door to centre
right in four centred arched doorway with pomegranate (?) and rose spandrel
carvings. Basement openings to left return, with C16 wing to rear left, 2
storeys with half hipped roof, casement windows and half-glazed door. Catslide
outshot to main range. Interior: heavily moulded ceiling beams to end left
parlour (with dragon beam). Large inglenook fireplaces with bread oven and
curing cupboard. Mullioned window with shutter grooves exposed on left return.
Upper fireplaces with simple chamfered four-centred chimney bressummer. Main
roof with large, square section crown posts, unmoulded but for chamfered
arisses, braced to collar purlin and tie beam.
