Farmhouse. Circa late C16 with C17 and C19 additions. Rendered stone rubble walls;
gable ended slate roof to lower left end and asbestos slate roof at slightly higher
level to right. 3 brick stacks to main range - one at each gable end and one axial
stack. Gable end rendered rubble stack to rear wing. Brick chimney shaft to rear
outshut.
Originally 3-room and through passage plan with lower room to the left; hall stack
backs onto passage, lower and inner rooms heated by gable end stacks which may not
be original. 1-room heated rear wing added behind hall/inner room in circa mid
C17. Parallel C19 dairy wing added to its right.
2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front. The 2 first floor windows at the centre
are C19 2-light casements with small panes, a similar window to the right is C20.
To left on first floor is C20 4-light casement with glazing bars in dormer. Below
it is circa mid C20 semi-circular bay window. To its right is single light C20
casement with glazing bars. At centre is original leanto porch constructed of
dressed granite blocks incorporating late C16 4-centred arch with moulded jambs and
decorated spandrels. To right of porch is mid C20 3-light casement. At far right
is 3-light C19 casements with small panes. At rear on first floor to right of
centre is single light granite framed C16 window with arched head. 2 parallel wings
to the left, the C17 one to the right has small paned C19 casements on its inner
face. C19 leanto at the centre.
Interior has two 4-centred granite arched doorways at front and rear of passage with
broad chamfers. A similar arch leads from the passage into the hall and one has
been re-used in a rear outshut which may originally have led into the lower room.
The C17 rear wing room has fairly heavy chamfered cross beams and a chamfered wooden
lintel to the fireplace. Other fireplaces have modern grates. Roof trusses not
inspected but relatively insubstantial feet to straight principals visible on 1st
floor suggest they are C18 or later.
