Farmhouse. Probably C16 origins with C17 modifications and C19 addition. Rendered
cob walls. Hipped thatched roof. 2 rendered stacks - one axial and one at the
left-hand end.
Plan: originally 3 room-and-through-passage, lower end to the left. Lack of access
to the roof makes it uncertain whether the house originally had an open hall, if so
it was modernised and ceiled in the C17. Hall stack backs onto passage, lower and
inner rooms both originally unheated and the small size of the inner room suggests
it has always been used for secondary service purposes. An end stack was added to
the lower room in circa early C18. In the C19 an outbuilding was added at the end
of the inner room.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Long asymmetrical 5 window front of C19 and C20 wooden
casements, 1, 2 and 3 lights, some with small panes. To left of centre is passage
doorway with C19 plank door. C20 part glazed door at right-hand end into former
outbuilding. C20 leanto in front of left-hand end.
Interior: Hall has chamfered cross beams with hollow step stops. At its higher end
is plank and muntin screen dividing it from inner room, with mason's mitre's and
high hollow step stops above a bench. At the lower side of the passage there is
also some form of plank partition but it is only partially exposed. The lower room
has chamfered cross beams with hollow step stops. It has a small open fireplace
with plain wooden lintel and oven.
Roof not entirely accessibly at time of survey but the feet of 2 early trusses are
visible over the hall on the 1st floor with threaded purlins and it is possible that
they may be medieval.
