Farmhouse. Circa early-mid C16 with C17 alterations. Rendered cob walls. Thatch
roof gabled to left end hipped to right. Large projecting rendered rubble lateral
stack at front and brick stack at left-hand end with brick shaft at right-hand end.
Plan: 3-room-and-through-passage plan, lower end to the left. The early C16 date
suggested by the screen at the higher end of the hall signifies that there may
originally have been an open hall with central hearth but this could only be proved
by an inspection of the roof timbers which was not possible at the time of the
survey. Certainly the lateral stack appears to be of a C17 date which would make it
an insertion rather than an original feature. C19 1 storey addition at rear and at
right-hand end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 4-window front of early C20 1 and 2-light
casements, 1st floor right-hand window is circa early C19 3-light casement with
leaded panes. Lower addition at right-hand end. C19 stable-type door to left of
centre. Stack projects to its right and has small fire window.
Interior: hall has chamfered cross beams and open fireplace with chamfered wooden
lintel. Plank and muntin screen at its higher end with high stops and a shouldered
head doorway. 1st floor and roof-space not accessible at time of survey but it is
likely that early, possibly medieval, roof timbers may survive.
This house has been very little altered this century and other surviving early
features are likely to have been concealed rather than removed.
