SAMPFORD COURTENAY
SS 60 SW
5/149 Lower Trecott
GV II
House, may originally have been a farmhouse. Early Cl7, possibly with C16 origins.
Rendered rubble and cob walls. Gable ended concrete tile roof. Projecting rendered
rubble stack at right gable end with brick shaft. Axial granite ashlar stack offset
from ridge with moulded dripcourse and tapering cap. Rendered stack at gable end of
rear wing.
Plan: originally 3-room-and-through-passage plan, lower end to the left has been
demolished. Hall stack backs onto the passage. Small wing behind inner room added
probably in C18.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front of approximately early C20 2- and
3-light casements except for ground floor right-hand window which is larger and mid
C20. C20 glazed door at left-hand end to passage. Semi-circular oven projection
immediately to right of door. C20 part-glazed porch at right-hand end.
Interior inaccessible at time of survey but likely to contain early open fireplaces
and ceiling beams. Tile roof structure may also be interest.
