Farmhouse. C17, with C19 addition. Rendered stone rubble and cob walls with the
stonework on the ground floor exposed at the front. Gable ended corrugated asbestos
roof. Axial brick stack on stone base and projecting rendered rubble stack at left
gable end with brick shaft.
Plan: 3-room and through passage plan with unheated lower room to the right and
hall heated by stack at its inner end. Newel stairs in projection at rear of hall.
C19 outshut added behind inner room.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front of late C20 3-light casements on
first floor. To right of centre on ground floor is early C20 2-light casement. To
its right is a later one without glazing bars. C20 glazed double doors to left.
C19 panelled door to passage at right of centre. Attached at the right-hand end is
a circa late C18 or early C19 shippon with corrugated iron roof, 3 doorways and a
central first floor loading hatch. The rear elevation of the house has a C17 2-
light chamfered wooden mullion window. At the centre is a rectangular stair
projection with C19 outshut to its right.
Interior: the hall and inner room have chamfered ceiling beams with holow step
stops, the lower room has a chamfered beam with runout stops. The hall has an open
fireplace with chamfered wooden lintel and granite jamb. Wood newel stairs to the
rear of the hall. Leading from the passage to the lower room is a chamfered C17
door frame whose lintel is chamfered as if for 2 openings - possibly it has been re-
used.
Roof: over the inner room is a plastered principal rafter with curved foot.
Difficulty of access to the loft here however prevented a full examination to
ascertain if it was a medieval truss or not. Otherwise the roof timbers have been
replaced by insubstantial trusses resting on the wall-plates.
