Milestone, early C19 for Alston Turnpike Trust. Single stone c2 ft high by c1½
ft wide with elliptical top; painted white with carved lettering on front face
picked out in black. Roman lettering used for original inscription at top:
ALSTON 2, HAYDON B. 15. Sans-serif addition below: HEXHAM 21½.
