Farmhouse. C17 with C19 alteration. Whitewashed rendered stone rubble with slate
roof gabled at ends, 2 brick chimneys, one at right gable end, one on ridge. The
plan was probably 2 or 3 room and through passage with the lower end of the hall
gabled out to the front as a small projection providing increased accommodation, the
hall heated from a stack in the higher end wall. The lower end and through passage
no longer exist and the inner room has been rebuilt, probably in the C19 when a rear
outshut was added. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3-window front with front left
projection gabled to the front and C20 half-glazed porch under sloping slate roof in
the right angle between the projection and the main block. C20 fenestration
throughout with altered embrasures, earlier drip ledges survive in the projection.
Interior; The hall has a large C17 fireplace with granite jambs, the right-hand jamb
with a roll moulding carried round as a volute decoration on 2 sides of the jamb,
lintel replaced. To the left of the fireplace and divided from it by a C20 partition
wall, the C17 stair turret survives as a rounded inner wall. A chamfered cross beam
to the projection has ogee stops. Pegged trusses. At one time Longham was in use as
an inn.
