including early C20 shop front and refurbishing c1980s. Stucco
over brick with concealed roof.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 3+4 first-floor windows. Stucco over
brick with ashlar shop front to ground floor, left end brick
stack. Stucco details include quoins to right angle through
first and second floors; first-floor windows have tooled
architraves and alternating triangular pediments and cornices
on console brackets; continuous sill band to second-floor
windows, with feet and tooled architraves alternately eared.
First floor has 1/1 sashes; second floor has 6/6 sashes; third
floor has 3/3 sashes, all in plain reveals. Ground floor shop
front has paired Ionic pilasters to entrance at left, then to
right of wide plate-glass window; 3 narrow windows have single
Ionic pilasters (2 at right) then further entrance to right
angle with Ionic pilasters, surmounted by continuous frieze
and cornice. C20 entrances.
Right return (No.4 Rodney Road): shop front continues for 2
blind bays, then link range of 2-storeys, 3 first-floor
windows then range of 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. Stucco
detailing includes horizontal rustication to ground floor
surmounted by cornice, with quoins through first and second
floors; tooled architraves to first-floor windows. Crowning
frieze and cornice. First and second floors have 6/6 sashes,
ground floor has 3/3 sashes, all in plain reveals and with
sills. Central entrance has 2 Ionic columns in antis,
architrave and frieze; double 6-panel doors and overlight.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Included for its group value on the High Street, and provides
a good opening to Rodney Road.
