House and attached railings. c1810-20, shown on the Post
Office Map of 1820. Stucco over brick with slate roof, tall
brick end stacks with cornices (that to right renewed) and
iron railings and window guards.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 3 first-floor windows. 6/6 sashes
throughout, those to first floor are taller, all in plain
reveals and with sills. Entrance at left, 6-panel door with
overlight. Cornice and low parapet.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: first-floor window guards have
embellished rods and scroll panels with lattice frieze.
Arrowhead railings to left.
HISTORICAL NOTE: addressed on Merrett's 1834 Map as
Southampton Place.
Archway between Nos 20 and 24 (leading to house (No.22) at
rear of No.20) (qv) is an integral part of the facade.
