Farmhouse. C16 with later alterations. Cob and stone mix, rendered, under slate-
hipped roof. The development of the house is not clear: possibly a 3-room cross-
passage plan with a 3-bay range, containing smoke-blackened jointed crucks (perhaps
formerly the Hall) and at right-angle to this (forming a rough T-plan) a 5-bay range,
of identical roof construction, but all principals clean, perhaps a parlour wing. If
these units do represent Hall and Parlour the lower end has been destroyed. External
rear lateral stack to Hall with a later internal stack adjacent to it, and an internal
end stack to parlour wing all with brick shafts now rendered over. 2 storeys
throughout. Front (i.e. facing approach drive); two 3-light casement windows to each
floor of Hall and one to the front of parlour wing. Right-hand elevation with 5-light
window to ground floor, and two 2-light windows above. Rear: porch in the angle
formed by the 2 ranges, under catslide roof, and concealing a former newel stair
turret. One 3-light window to each floor to right of porch. All windows barred and
C20. Interior: 3 cross beams, chamfered with run-out stops to parlour; internal
entrance with chamfered jambs and shallow chamfered arch, with remains of screen.
Interior much re-ordered with pieces of ancient timber reused (eg beams as uprights).
Roof: Hall, 3 jointed crucks, collar and arch brace, all joints morticed and side-
pegged; trenched purlins, diagonal ridge-piece and wind-braces: all smoke blackened.
The parlour wing is of identical construction, but all timbers are clean; 3 principals
with (probably later) King posts. Evidence of red paint on all principals, one (that
to the rear of wing) completely covered.
