Well-head pump-house, c1830 for J G S Smith, converted to water tank in
later C19. Yellow-grey brick, slate roof. Octagonal on plan. Tall single
storey. Round-arched recessed panels to each side except west, some panels
with later brick blocking. Blocked segmental-headed opening to north, small
segmental-headed hatches to east and west sides. Vertical cast-iron ribs
bolted to each side. Stepped and dentilled brick eaves cornice. Originally
built to house a horse pump above a deep well, it was converted to a water
tank fed by a wind pump in the village over a mile away. The thickened
lower walls are supported by the iron ribs tied by iron bars to a central
pillar. No longer in use for domestic water supply.
