House. Early C16 origins. Rebuilt and extended mid C17. Brick refronting
late C18. C19 additions and C20 alterations. Timber frame, front and
return brick walls, rendering to rear. Tiled roofs. Originally a 2 bay
hall house, rebuilt as double-ended, lobby entry house with staircase
wing to rear. 2 storeys and attic. Front: entrance to right of hall
range in C19 brick and flint porch hiding earlier bracketed hood. C20
casements. Dentilled brick eaves. One hipped dormer to left. C17 ridge
stack to right: cruciform with oversailing caps and buttressing to rear.
Gabled cross wings project slightly to front. C20 glazing bar sashes
with flat arched heads. C20 brick right return with a C19/C20 gabled
projection. Left return: extruded stack with offsets and a lean-to
conservatory addition. To rear: cross wings extend, further to right,
exposed wall plates and purlins. C19 stacks to gable ends. Sash to
staircase wing, stairs removed. Casements elsewhere. 2 half dormers
flank central wing. Later lean-to additions. To rear right C19 1-storey
dairy, rendered with a hipped roof. Interior: ground floor ovolo moulded
binding beam. Restored wall painting in first floor ceiling in right
wing: dated 1662 with initials and ornament. Clasped purlin roof. Curved
braces to tie beams and wind braces. (RCHM Typescript).
