House(probably Elstree Manor House),now community centre. Probably
C17 origins, extended C18 and remodelled c1880. Colourwashed brick
and C19 dark red brick with stone dressings;Welsh slate roof, front
elevation:2 storeys and attic;main part 6-window range, mostly of
large-paned sashes. Small verandah with chamfered timber uprights
on square stone bases, curved timber brackets and Welsh slate roof.
2 dormers. Right end is canted with door, window and dormer in side
elevation and return cant to rear. To left hand the C19 frontage is
slightly recessed with 3 windows on each of ground and first floors
and 2 dormers. To left hand of frontage is recessed two-storey wing
in C18 (or possibly earlier) painted brickwork with 2 sash windows
under segmental arches on first floor. Small lean-to in painted
brickwork with single-pitched Welsh slate roof added to front. Side
(west) elevation:Two C18 sash windows to first floor;casements below.
M-shaped,roof, hipped and Welsh slated and a parapet to the front
elevation. Rear elevation: Centre has two probably C17 steeply-pitched
gables. C18 six-panel door to left of centre. Mostly C18 sash windows
with glazing bars;some C20 replacement windows, 2-storey extension
with hipped roof to right;single-storey C18 wing to left;some C20
additions. Interior:Mostly C19, but single-storey rear wing retains
some C18 fittings.
