II*
House. Two hall houses joined in one long range. Late C15 or early C15 origin on north; C16 origin on south. Timber frame. Roughcast walls. Plain tile roofs. Two storeys. Three plus three bays, the two houses joined by c.1600. East elevation has eight windows, a mixture of early C19 flush sash windows and, in centre, C17 leaded casements. Central early C19 fielded panel door with flat hood on scrolled brackets. South gable end has a large venetian sash window inserted by Sir Albert Richardson in 1930s. House is divided internally into two parts of identical size by a very unusual skewed transverse frame. In the first room from the south on the ground floor is a good C16 figured and decorative wall painting covering studwork and an ogee-headed door frame, a free geometrical design with a scrollwork frieze containing classical grotesques holding cartouches.
