House. Late 16. Timber frame roughcast. Steep old red tile
roofs, main range hipped at N. A very wide-span main range of 2
storeys facing W with a large central chimney and a 2 storeys,
attics and cellar S crosswing, projecting only to rear, with a
staircase in the angle, and a large external front chimney at the
SW corner with stumps of 2 octagonal shafts. Diagonally set
shafts to central chimney. Irregular W front with small attic
window beside large chimney at S end, 3 1st floor windows and 4
ground floor windows. Casement flush windows with 3 to 5 lights.
Fine carved and pierced consoles to flat hood over plank door.
Interior has Tudor arched fireplaces, especially elaborate one
with fluted frieze at SW, and 3-light ovolo-moulded blocked
window. Tension braces in walls and bar stops to chamfers on
doorway on ground floor from hall. (RCHM (1911) 69).
