House, now 2 houses. C14 or early C15, C17 S wing and inserted
floor and central chimney in hall. Divided in C18 or early C19.
Timber frame plastered with red brick underbuilding of formerly
jettied front of N wing. Steep old red tile roofs. Former open-
hall house with N crosswing, and S crosswing probably built in
C17. Lobby entrance created with insertion of floor in hall.
One and a half storeys with 2-storeys gabled wings, facing E.
Roof of hall part sweeps down at front with a window and door in
line with tall central chimney of conjoined square shafts.
Bargeboarded gabled wings with one window to each floor. 2-light
small-paned casement windows generally. Flush box sash windows
with many small panes, in N wing. Open truss of hall has tie-
beam moulded with 2 orders, chamfered and quadrant, with crown-
post braced to tie-beam. Cambered tie beam cut through to build
chimney stack and removed piece reused as fireplace lintel.
Curved tension bracing in N wing (Hunts Cottage) and close
studding. Axial ceiling beams inserted in hall are chamfered
with pyramid stop. (RCHM Typescript).
