Lodge. For the Gosselin family, '1886' on date stone on N end.
Probably by George Devey. Red brick with red tiled half-hipped
roof. A small rectangular 2 storey lodge to Blakesware, set into
a slope appearing as 1 storey on E. Symmetrical E front to drive
with 2 aggressive parapeted rectangular brick bays flanking a
gabled timber porch rising far above the eaves. Plank door under
a red rubbed brick arch with a projecting moulded bracket as the
key stone supporting a shelf before a large blue on white ceramic
plaque of St Raphael set in a niche in brickwork carried above
the eaves. Open timber porch with turned stumpy balasters and
moulded rail to lower part, shouldered brackets to a moulded
wallplate returned across the front to support an arch-braced
collar truss with ashlar pieces. 2 close-set tall central
chimneys. 2-light casement windows. Bedrooms in lower floor on
W. An interesting C19 lodge house with unusual features of
planning and decoration. Part of a group with the ornamental
bridge to N at this entrance to the park of Blakesware.
