C16-C17 origin (there is said to be a stone dated 1608), the original building
was timber framed. Late in C17 it was brick cased, and there is a fine
red brick south front. It has slightly projecting wings at each end with
hipped gable, the centre front of three bays forward under pediment (which
has a blocked oval light), wood modillioned eaves cornice carried round
the pediment, 2:1:3:1:2 window range of double hung sashes with glazing
bars, plain band, central brick entrance porch with modillioned cornice
and broken pediment head. Two storey and attics, the-east and west wings
have three hipped dormers. Three important chimney stacks, one of the north
side with two octagonal shafts, one from the 'former hall' with two shafts
of carved brickwork in the form of 'garland' and 'fish scale pattern', both
chimneys date from C17. The south wing stack has four grouped octagonal
shafts. C17 interior panelling and fireplaces, one in the hall of C16
constructed of stone. Other fireplaces and panelling were brought from
'Beeches' earlier this century. Fine brickwork boundary wall and entrance
piers. Wall reduced in height along part of south-western boundary.
