GV II*

Large free-standing dwelling set back from street. C16 and C17, with late
C18 front. Painted brick, stone quoins and moulded strings at three levels,
parapet; Welsh slate hipped roof. Front block with lateral stacks, two deep
projecting wings, including large external stack, right. Three storeys, 3-
windowed, but 4 at ground floor, sashes with glazing bars, in reveals,
stepped voussoirs, stone cills; stepped heads probably cut from single stone.
Bold projecting Doric portico with responds. Entrance hall has large fire-
place, left, with very deep stone lintol; early C18 stair open square well,
heavy moulded handrail, square newels, twisted balusters; two Gothick windows
to stair hall, back. Dining Room C18 painted panelling and fire surround
including fluted Doric pilasters and triglyph frieze. Many windows with C18
shutters. Large vaulted stone cellar, formerly approaching by flight stone
steps, right, from external access.
