Meeting House Cottage
II
House. Late C17 or early C18, adapted as 2 houses during late
C18, with C20 small E extension. Timber frame, plastered,
with lower floor cased in C18 red brick, under a steep thatched
roof. Brick and tile E extension. A long, 2-storeys, central-
chimney plan house facing S, with a large room to each side of
the chimney and a narrow service room and stair at each end. 4
windows front with door between each pair of lower windows. E
door now has gabled porch: W door altered to a window. 2-light
flush casement windows, with segmental arches on lower floor.
Chamfered axial floor beams with notched stops and square-section
joists. An isolated building, not far from the Quaker burial
ground given by John Exton of Ardeley in 1710.
