5/90 The Retreat
II
House. Probably late C16, part rebuilt C20. Timber framed core with
brick nogging, some rendering. Extended in brick. Tiled roofs. 2 bays
remain of once larger house with present rear addition replacing an
earlier structure. 2 storeys. To drive exposed posts, rail and studs.
Ground floor horizontal sliding sash. To right 1 bay 2 storey addition.
To left 1 storey addition. To garden exposed posts and rail, 3 ground
floor 2 light casements. First floor 2 light casement and a single
light. Rear gable end of early block has a C17 external stack with a
rebuilt cap, exposed tie beam, struts, collar and clasped purlins.
Interior: stop chamfered binding beam, curved braces to stop chamfered
cambered tie beam. (RCHM Typescript).
