Ice house. Early C19, probably by Jeffry Wyatt 1816-22, for 7th Earl of
Bridgewater when building at Ashridge. Dug into a bank a chamber 30ft
deep approached by a passage with checks for 3 doors. Entrance through
an artificial escarpment of puddingstone with door recessed under a
large capstone. (Douglas Coult Ashridge 2nd ed (1979) Ashridge
Management College).
