Farmhouse. Early C19 with mid-C20 alterations. Brick; shallow-pitched hipped
slate roof with overhanging eaves, acroteria to front and large rear ridge
stacks. Three storeys with first floor sill band. Three bays; ground floor
bays are articulated by blind round-headed archways with keyblocks; outer bays
have inserted round-headed sash windows; first and second floor windows have
gauged flat heads; first floor windows are C20 replacement 12-pane casements;
second floor windows are single-hung 9-pane sashes; windows all have stone
sills. Central entrance breaks forward slightly and blind round-headed arch-
way has imposts; there is a 6-panelled door (panels have been glazed) and a
barred segmental fanlight. The wall and railings enclose a garden about three
yards wide in front of the farmhouse; wall is of brick with sandstone coping,
about 30 yards long and one foot high and supports the cast iron railings
which are alternately spear-headed and crescent-headed. About six yards from
their east end the wall and railings are interrupted by a cast iron gateway
of ornate design with slender fluted gate piers. The wall and railings are
attached to the house at their east end by a brick wall about three yards long
and swept up from about five feet to eight feet high.
