Farmhouse. Dated 1564 with mid-C18, mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and
additions. Part timber-framed with rendered infill on sandstone base,
part brick; plain tiled roofs, partly half-hipped. Main part aligned
east/west is of two framed, plus two brick bays; large chimney occupies
second bay from west end with three star-shaped stacks; single-bay brick
wing to south-west has external chimney with tiled offsets on west side
elevation. Two storeys and attic, partly with dentilled eaves cornice.
Framing: close-set studding from sill to girding-beam; three rows of square
panels from girding-beam to wall-plate; collar and tie-beam truss at west
gable end has three collars, six struts to lower collar, two to central
and upper collar and concave V-strut in apex. West front elevation: gable
end has tiled weatherings at first floor and attic level (first floor level
weathering on shaped brackets), which continue round framed part of side
elevations; ground floor has C20 bay window with central half-glazed door;
5-light ovolo wood-mullioned window on first floor; similar 4-light window
at attic level; date "1564" in apex. Brick wing to right with large external
chimney. South entrance elevation: ground floor has a 4-light and a 2-light
casement; two 3-light first floor casements; main entrance adjacent to brick
wing has C20 lean-to partly-glazed porch and half-glazed door with cambered
head; gable end of brick wing to left has a ground and first floor 4-light
casement. Interior not inspected. C20 single-storey addition at east gable
end (BoE p 95).
