Farmhouse, now house. c1600 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations and
additions. Timber-framed with painted brick infill, replacement walling
and additions; machine-tiled roofs. Hall and cross-wing plan; hall part
of one framed bay aligned roughly north/south; large external chimney at
south end with brick stack is now enclosed by C19 bay which continues the
roof line and has a gable-end stack; cross-wing of two framed bays situated
at north gable end with large chimney at west end which has a tall stack to
north side of roof pitch. Single storey and attic with dormers; partly
with dentilled eaves cornice. Framing: two panels from sill to wall-plate
(only upper panels visible externally to east bay of cross-wing); short
swept braces in some upper corners; cross-wing has collar and tie-beam
trusses with raking struts. West front elevation: main part has two ground
floor 3-light C20 casements (the one in the C19 part has a cambered head)
and a gabled dormer with 2-light C19 casement. Cross-wing gable end has an
attic light and the main entrance which has a cambered head, C20 door and
plain transom light. Interior: roof, rear wall-frame and cross-frames
appear intact; large fireplace in hall part survives but is concealed;
winder staircase to east of hall fireplace. C19 and C20 additions to
north side and rear. Although little framing is exposed externally much
of the original fabric survives, some of it concealed by light internal
cladding.
